State Databases: HI – Agriculture & Food Products

If you’ve been to Hawaii, like I have, you’ll remember all that tasty food…including macadamia nuts and Dole Pineapples. Heck, even the McDonald’s in Honolulu served a side of Dole Pineapple bits with your Burger n’ Fries!

If you are curious to learn more about what Hawaii has to offer for food and agriculture products, check out the Hawai`i Agriculture & Food Products Database, which allows you to find a specific producer or product (i.e. Dole), or just browse the listings by category to view the large variety of products Hawai`i has to offer. You can search by business type, specific services, by a specific island, and more. Each result gives you the company’s details, including contact information, a website, types of services, markets, and products.

State Databases: AL – Alabama and the Great War

People who suspect their Alabama relatives were in World War I will find this database of interest:

World War I Gold Star Database contains information on Alabama service people who died during World War I. Records are somewhat sparse, but do include Name, Branch, Regiment, Race, Town and County, when available.

The Alabama page of State Agency Databases Across the Fifty States is maintained by Valerie Glenn.

If history is a special interest for you or for your patrons, be sure to check out the history-related state agency databases we have compiled from our subject focused lists of state agency databases. It is a great way to see what other states have to offer.

State Agency Databases Across the Fifty States

I am Daniel Cornwall and I coordinate the State Agency Databases Across the Fifty States project for the State and Local Documents Task Force. This project was started in July 2007 with the goal of creating an annotated list of every publicly searchable database produced by a state level agency. We have now compiled hundreds of databases from all 50 States and the District of Columbia.  Forty-two of the pages are maintained by a volunteer, usually a librarian.

With the blessing of the GODORT blog administrators, Rebecca Blakeley and I will be sharing weekly highlights from the state agency databases that have been discovered and described by this project, along with other project news. We had been sharing these highlights over at the State Agency Database Highlights blog at http://statedatabase.wordpress.com, but think they will receive better exposure here.  We hope you will find these highlights of value and hope you will visit and contribute to our project page at http://wikis.ala.org/godort/index.php/State_Agency_Databases. For information on how you can help with the project, please see our Four Ways to Help page.
